Hyaluronic Acid – Restoration of Lost Volume
Hyaluronic acid is currently the most popular treatment for static wrinkles. It is a polysaccharide and a major component of the skin’s extracellular matrix, present in most organisms and tissue types. As we age, its levels decrease, leading directly to the formation and deepening of wrinkles.
Hyaluronic acid is completely safe and does not cause allergic reactions or side effects because the latest generation of fillers is non-animal in origin. Once injected, it remains in the body for approximately 10–14 months, after which it is naturally broken down and absorbed.
Common treatment areas include:
- Upper lip wrinkles (smoker’s lines)
- Lines around the mouth (nasolabial folds, marionette lines)
- Cheek wrinkles
- Lip volume enhancement (plump lips) or contour definition
- Cheekbone volume enhancement
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Tear troughs
- Forehead, eye, and glabella wrinkles (often combined with Botox)
- Jawline and chin contouring
- Acne scars
- Liquid face lift – selective fillers to lift sagging areas, reduce wrinkles, and deeply hydrate, similar to Mesotherapy
Injectable hyaluronic acid can correct various signs of facial aging or enhance certain features. Its malleable nature allows for multiple approaches, often discussed and planned with the patient.
There is no ideal age to start hyaluronic acid treatments. In younger patients, it is usually used to enhance features such as the lips or cheekbones. In older patients, the goal is to restore, as much as possible, the youthful appearance of the face. The material is always injected in controlled amounts to maintain natural facial proportions.
Hyaluronic acid is the safest injectable treatment available and is unique in that it has an “antidote”: hyaluronidase, an enzyme that can dissolve the filler without damaging the surrounding tissue.
The application procedure
The treatment lasts 10–20 minutes, is painless with the use of a topical anesthetic cream, and is affordably priced.
After the Treatment
It combines perfectly with Botox to simultaneously treat both static and dynamic wrinkles.
