About Chin Surgery and Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement
Chin surgery is a plastic surgical procedure aimed at correcting the size and projection of the chin. As an anatomical feature, the chin plays a significant role in the aesthetic harmony of the face, as its size and shape can make the nose appear larger or smaller, or alter the profile, giving the impression of a double chin.
There are therefore reduction and augmentation chin procedures: reduction when the chin protrudes excessively, and augmentation when it is significantly recessed relative to the face and nose.
Chin surgery is often combined with rhinoplasty to harmonize the facial profile, and this combined procedure is referred to as profiloplasty.
Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement
When the chin is slightly underdeveloped, injectable fillers can achieve results comparable to implants. However, these results are temporary and typically need to be repeated every two years.
This approach dramatically reduces recovery time and, naturally, the cost of the procedure. It is a painless method, usually requiring only a topical anesthetic cream for more sensitive patients.
It is often combined with Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty for a more complete aesthetic improvement of the profile.
The Procedure of the Surgery
Chin surgery is performed either using an implant to augment the chin or by operating on the jawbone to reduce or advance the bone.
The advantage of using an implant is that the result is reversible, as it can be removed if the patient wishes or is dissatisfied with the aesthetic outcome.
Chin surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or under local anesthesia alone, through an incision inside the oral cavity at the level of the lower jaw, or via a small incision under the chin.
After the Procedure
Postoperatively, a light elastic bandage is applied, cold compresses are placed on the area, hard foods should be avoided for 7–10 days, and careful oral hygiene is recommended.
To prevent displacement of the implant, caution is advised during the recovery period.
Combined Procedures
Chin surgery can be performed simultaneously with Rhinoplasty and Facelift procedures.
