CO2 Fractional
It is one of the most widely used methods worldwide for skin restructuring and facial rejuvenation. Excellent results are achieved for wrinkles, scars, pigmentation spots, freckles, and enlarged pores, earning it the nickname “scalpel-free lifting,” as it can produce dramatic results in a short time and without pain.
The Fractional CO2 Laser is an ablative laser that targets the skin, causing immediate impressive resurfacing, as well as stimulating deeper skin layers where it activates fibroblasts to produce new collagen. The process of collagen formation becomes visible after 3 to 6 months as tightening and increased skin elasticity. The Fractional CO2 Laser vaporizes layers of skin in small beams, leaving areas of untouched skin in between. This method reduces the risk of complications and significantly shortens healing time. Advanced fractional lasers allow adjustment not only of intensity and pulse duration but also of the desired penetration depth. This means the treatment can be fully customized to the needs of each skin type. Superficial treatments are chosen for sun-induced pigmentation, while deeper settings are used for wrinkles or acne scars.
The fractional CO2 laser is ideal for:
- Acne Scars: The laser removes damaged skin caused by acne while stimulating the formation of new skin.
- Discoloration (pigmentation, sunspots, melasma): As the laser stimulates collagen production, the new skin formed is free from discoloration. Repeat sessions may be required if problems reappear.
- Fine & deep wrinkles: Fractional CO2 stimulates fibroblast activity, filling wrinkles with the body’s natural collagen.
- Enlarged pores: The laser’s thermal energy triggers an inflammatory response, resulting in pore shrinkage.
The Treatment Procedure
The treatment lasts approximately 50 minutes. Depending on the depth of treatment, anesthesia may not be required, or a topical anesthetic cream may be used. For more aggressive treatments, the doctor may administer local anesthesia.
After the Treatment
After treatment, swelling and significant redness occur and last for a few days. Combining with PRP (autologous mesotherapy) can accelerate healing and significantly reduce irritation.
It is very important to apply a high-SPF sunscreen and a regenerative cream until the skin fully heals; otherwise, spots or discoloration may appear. After fractional CO2 laser treatment, the skin will have noticeably improved texture and tone. Fine lines around the eyes and wrinkles around the mouth will soften. Skin laxity on the neck and jawline will improve, and sun damage will be reduced. Acne scars and marks will also decrease dramatically.
It should be emphasized that the CO2 laser is just a tool in the hands of the doctor. The doctor’s experience and skill, combined with patient adherence to instructions, are what ensure optimal results.
